Ensuring the accuracy and performance of a battery gauge requires the completion of an initial optimization cycle, also known as learning cycle. Typically performed on a single representative battery pack during the development stage, the resulting values are programmed into every pack during mass production. There should be minimal pack-to-pack variation in a well-controlled manufacturing process. The flash image extracted from a "golden pack" during development is called the "golden file" and is used in mass production.
