CIRCUIT060032

High-voltage, high-side floating current sensing circuit using current output, current sense amp

CIRCUIT060032

Overview

This cookbook is intended to demonstrate a method of designing an accurate current sensing solution for systems with high common mode voltages. The principle aspect of this design uses a unidirectional circuit to monitor a system with Vcm = 400V by floating the supplies of the device across a Zener diode from the supply bus (Vcm). This cookbook is based on the TIDA-00332 high voltage 12 V – 400 V DC current sense reference design.
Features
  • Input: -40 A to 40 A
  • Output: 100 mV to 4.9 V
  • Supply: Vs = 5 V, GND = 0 V, Vref = 2.5 V
  • Standoff and clamp voltages: Vwm = 36 V, Vc = 80 V
  • EFT level: Vpp = 2 kV 8/20 µs
