Overview

Zendar's Distributed Aperture Radar (DAR) software fuses two or three medium-range radar (MRR) sensors, operated coherently together to provide enhanced radar resolution. The use of two physically displaced sensors creates a large virtual aperture enabling enhanced azimuth resolution of 0.5 degrees or lower, which helps to separate objects which are closely spaced. Radar solutions for vehicles are limited by size restrictions and mounting constraints, while performance is usually constrained by the sensor's size. Distributed Aperture Radar systems enlarge the aperture of the system through the spacing of sensors, rather than building larger, costlier hardware. With its modular approach, distributed aperture radar can play a key role in navigating the unique design and integration challenges of the automotive industry. DAR builds on traditional radar technology, combining multiple standard sensors to create a solution that’s greater than the sum of its parts in terms of performance.
