High-side switches & controllers

Solutions for power distribution and load protection

Browse by category

High-side smart power switches and controllers drive capacitive, inductive and resistive loads across automotive and industrial applications. TI's portfolio includes internal-FET and external-FET configurations, providing robust protection and diagnostics across a wide range of load currents. Smart eFuse high-side switches, available in both FET configurations, include additional I2T-based overcurrent protection for protecting wire harnesses. TI's high-side portfolio includes single, dual, and quad-channel configurations with parallel and serial interfaces. Our 12V, 24V and 48V portfolios are tailored to support automotive zone, body, and battery management systems, as well as industrial automation, humanoid robotics and energy infrastructure.

Key technologies of high-side power switches

Accelerate 48V hardware development with optimized smart power switches

With the next generation of architectures requiring more power, 48V power distribution enable higher efficiency and reduced weight across automotive systems. TI high-side switches and controllers offer robust protection and diagnostics across a wide range of load currents and system requirements.

Harness the power of integrated wire protection

With the growing power demands of modern vehicles there is a need for greater optimization in energy and material usage, especially as OEMs move to modern zone architectures. The smart eFuse high-side switch enables power and material savings with its integrated and programmable I2T overcurrent protection curve. This variable curve replicates the energy limits of traditional melting fuses but uses instant-read current sense. The advantage of this solution is multifold:

  • Instant protection as opposed to a fuse's thermal latency.
  • Software-resettable fuse that does not need to be physically replaced.
  • Fuse protection decentralized from the fuse box.

Simplify your system by reducing PCB traces and eliminating external sensing components

TI high-side switches help protect against high inrush current, overload and short-circuit conditions with adjustable current limiting. Integrating the adjustable current limit reduces PCB traces and connector sizes to lower your system costs. Additionally, accurate current sensing enables real-time monitoring of system loads through open load detection without calibration and eliminates the need for additional sensing components.

Scale with flexible high-side switch controllers

High-side switch controllers help build scalable, efficient and safe power distribution systems. By driving external MOSFETs, high-side switch controllers seemlessly scale across a wide range of voltages and currents. Our portfolio features strong and fast gate control, fault detection and diagnostic reporting to protect loads and enhance system relability.  TI high-side switch controllers support flexible configurations with MOSFETs connected in parallel for higher current capabilitly or back-to-back for reverse current blocking. They are available in single or dual gate drive architectures to meet diverse applications like low-power operating modes.

Reduce control signals and enable greater customization

TI's high-side switch portfolio offers two control methods: GPIO or Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). SPI enables greater customization, allowing the user to control functions like:

  • Enabling the switches and diagnostics.
  • Measuring voltage, current and temperature.
  • Managing faults.
  • Configuring the current limit and inrush current time.

High-side switches with SPI often integrate an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to enable the measurement and reporting of signals like temperature, supply voltage and output voltage. The ability to report current-sense data and fault information via SPI helps users identify problems quickly and analyze potential root cause.
